Kranjcar cautious over fitness

Portsmouth midfielder Niko Kranjcar has warned that he is still some way short of full fitness, despite making a return to action after ankle surgery.

The 24-year-old Croatia international came on as a substitute against both Fulham and Liverpool in the last week, having been sidelined for just over two months.

Kranjcar told The News: "I'm nowhere near ready to start a game yet, but it was nice to get back out there again and get a feel for the pace of the game.

"In two or three weeks' time, I think I will be ready to push for the starting eleven again, but I won't rush myself.

"I have to take it a step at a time, but I'm happy that I haven't had any problems with the ankle since the operation.

"That is great news for me. It has healed the way it is supposed to heal and now it is just a question of finding my match-fitness again.

"Now I will work as hard as I can in every training session and do some extra running to get myself fitter again. But it's great to be back playing again."
