Kanu told to focus on battle
22 Apr 2009 - 08:29:19
Caretaker manager Paul Hart has told Nwankwo Kanu to concentrate on Portsmouth's current predicament following the striker's claim that he is unsure of his future with the club.
The Nigeria striker is out of contract in the summer and recently appealed to the south coast club to resolve his future with the offer of a new deal.
However, Hart, who is also only under contract himself until the end of the season, insists he has no say over player futures and has told the former Ajax, Internazionale and Arsenal frontman to concentrate on helping keep the club in the Premier League.
Fourteenth-placed Pompey travel to Old Trafford to face title-chasing Manchester United on Wednesday night.
"All contracts will be discussed at the appropriate time but that is not now. I don't even know if I will be involved," said Hart.
Meanwhile, the interim manager has warned United to expect a tough encounter with his relegation-haunted side on Wednesday.
"We have still got players in a small-ish squad capable of coming in and playing at this level and we have prepared ourselves for United with a determination to get something there," he added.
"Certainly there is no way we will just lie down and roll over for them."
