Kanu poised for Pompey stay
28 Jul 2008 - 08:54:07
Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp is confident that striker Nwankwo Kanu will soon pledge his future to the club by signing a new one-year contract.
The 31-year-old Nigeria international had been linked with a move away from Fratton Park, having previously held out for a two-year deal from the South Coast club.
However, Redknapp now thinks that Kanu will settle for a 12-month extension.
He told the club's official website: "I took him from West Brom when a lot of people said he was finished, but he's been fantastic for Portsmouth.
"But, like anybody, he's not getting any younger. Every year he's signed a one-year deal and if he plays a certain amount of games, he gets another year.
"Hopefully the deal will be sorted, because I want to keep him at Portsmouth because I love him - he's a fantastic man and a great footballer."
