Kanu wants new Pompey deal

Kanu is eager to trigger a clause in his contract which entitles him to another year at Portsmouth. Although the Nigerian striker has started just five games this season the fact he has made 24 appearances in all competitions is enough to win him an extra term at Fratton Park. It is questionable whether the South Coast club would in other circumstances grant him fresh terms in the summer, but the out-of-contract star has set his heart on staying in the Premier League. "Yes, I'm qualified for another contract," said Kanu. "That is what it says in this present contract and hopefully I will be here next year because that is what I want. "I love being at the club, playing for the team and playing for the supporters who are the best there is. It is in my hands whether to stay here and I hope that is what will happen." Kanu's agent and lawyer Samuel Okoronkwo added: "It would not be ethical for me to discuss it but you can take it from me that Kanu is still a Portsmouth player."
