Kanu set for new Pompey deal

Kanu has assured Portsmouth supporters that he will not be leaving Fratton Park at the end of his contract as he is close to agreeing a new deal. The Nigerian's current agreement expires on Wednesday and there has been speculation about whether will remain with the South Coast club. However, Kanu actually triggered an appearance-based clause last season to earn a 12-month extension. The deal just needs to be finalised and the veteran striker is already holding talks with chief executive Peter Storrie. And the forward's legal representative, Samuel Okoronkwo, told The News: "I fully expect Kanu to be playing at Portsmouth next season. "I can confirm that we are currently in negotiations with Peter Storrie and are making good progress. I am hoping, at the close of play, he will be here. "There was interest from elsewhere, although I am not at liberty to name them. "But Portsmouth holds his interest and he is willing to show his loyalty to the club and stay longer. This is where he wants to be." One player who may not be at Fratton Park when the new campaign gets underway is midfielder Arnold Mvuemba. The 24-year-old, who has been with Pompey since January 2007, is training with Lorient ahead of a possible move to the French club. "Arnold's gone to Lorient to train to see whether he can work some sort of deal out," Storrie confirmed on the club's official website.
