Johnson looks set for return to Chelsea while Al Fahim takeover talks progress at Portsmouth

Portsmouth's prospective new owner Sulaiman al Fahim is expected at Fratton Park today to continue his takeover business but is unlikely to veto the sale of Glen Johnson to Chelsea. England full back Johnson is looking increasingly likely to return to Stamford Bridge for a fee in the region of £10million. There is money still outstanding from Johnson's £4m transfer to Pompey, two years ago, and the fact that Al Fahim will not stop the sale is further proof that the United Arab Emirates billionaire is not planning a Manchester City style spending spree if he takes control of the south coast club this summer. There seems no prospect of Sol Campbell being offered an extension to his £60,000 a week contract and former England manager Sven Goran Eriksson, who normally commands a salary in excess of £4m, is unlikely to be targeted. Resisting his usual fondness for hyperbole, Al Fahim confessed he was not lining up a swoop for Eriksson, claiming: 'He is not on the shortlist.' He also offered further clues to his spending restrictions as he dismissed suggestions he might be about to drop his interest in Portsmouth to buy Newcastle. He said: 'Other clubs have huge debts and I don't have the budget. Price-wise this one is good.' The Pompey takeover, which will be examined closely by the Barclays Premier League as a test case for their stricter new ownership rules, is expected to end up costing in the region of £60m. Al Fahim will meet club officials on friday as part of the due diligence process, to scrutinise the business before the takeover is completed, although he is unlikely to meet caretaker manager Paul Hart, who is away on holiday. Despite his comments on Eriksson, Hart will be asked to return with his former role at the club, in charge of the Academy, and Al Fahim wants to place far greater emphasis on homegrown players than high-profile costly imports. He said: 'We are looking at hiring talented English players and I am interested in one UAE national player who is very talented.'  With the prospect of 6+5 quotas still firmly on the FIFA agenda, many clubs will shop this summer with this philosophy in mind. While chasing some of the biggest names in world football on one front, Chelsea are also stocking up on English talent such as Johnson, Manchester City's Daniel Sturridge and Middlesbrough's reserve team goalkeeper Ross Turnbull, who are both out of contract. They are among the front runners in the race to sign Charlton's highly rated teenager Jonjo Shelvey but are braced for the prospect of an auction with others.
