Jerko chicken! Leko won't join Pompey as plight would just be too bad

Croatia midfielder Jerko Leko has stuck the boot into beleaguered Portsmouth by insisting he is relieved a transfer to the South Coast club collapsed. The 29-year-old says Pompey balked at Monaco's £1.8million price tag in the summer and had signed other players by the time his French employers lowered their demands. Leko, who has also attracted interest from Celtic and Wolverhampton Wanderers, is out of contract at the end of the season and could move in the winter transfer window. 'There were offers from England and Germany (in the summer),' he said. 'I've not worried about the transfer to Portsmouth not happening. Their situation is bad. 'I'll try to regain a place in the (Monaco) team and, in the winter, I might still go. There is an offer from a Moscow club, but nothing concrete yet.'
