James - We need focus
David James admits Portsmouth's season is going to be a struggle and is eager for the club's uncertainty to be resolved.
Portsmouth are currently propping up the Premier League, having lost their opening two games.
And with a takeover in the balance off the field and key players having been solved, the England shot-stopper wants Pompey to do their talking on the pitch and kick-start their campaign.
"It's going to be tough," he told The Times.
"We've got a squad of 22 senior pros, of which four are goalkeepers.
"We cannot actually have a legitimate 11-a-side match (in training). It would be a problem for any manager."
Proposed takeover
Chief executive Peter Storrie spoke to the players before Wednesday's defeat to Birmingham about his plans to buy out owner Alexandre Gaydamak.
Sulaiman al-Fahim, the chairman, who has been unable to deliver his proposed takeover, has not been excluded from a future role.
"I hope that the club is soon going to be in a better position with regard to financial issues, which is a concern that I've voiced," James, who is reportedly attracting the attentions of Tottenham, added.
"Whether or not there are players lined up, and whether or not we're in a position where we can get them - these are questions that will need to be answered.
"But if the takeover actually goes through, that's a step in the right direction."
Shoulder surgery
James, who has missed the previous three England games to have shoulder surgery, hopes to be back in the squad for the Slovenia friendly on 5th September and the World Cup qualifier against Croatia four days later.
"My injury and operation means that there has been a chance for Robert Green to start matches and Ben Foster is being touted as a candidate, so there is an opportunity for some goalkeepers.
"But I don't want to lose the position."
