James to undergo surgery

Portsmouth goalkeeper David James is to have a shoulder operation later this week.[LNB] James, who missed Pompey's 3-1 victory over Sunderland on Monday with an unrelated sore neck, will undergo surgery in London on Wednesday.[LNB]He has been struggling with the problem for some time and Pompey have decided to take action to get him fit for the start of next term.[LNB]The 38-year-old will therefore miss Portsmouth's final game of the season against Wigan on Sunday.[LNB]Asmir Begovic may deputise again, with Pompey's Premier League survival having already been secured over the weekend.[LNB]News of James' injury will come as a blow to England manager Fabio Capello as he will not be able to play any part in this summer's World Cup qualifiers.[LNB]England face Kazakhstan and Andorra in early June and will be looking to strengthen their position at the top of Group Six.[LNB]Manchester United's Ben Foster, among the substitutes for the victory over Ukraine in April, is set to be sidelined for around two months following thumb surgery.[LNB]
