James glad window is over
Portsmouth goalkeeper David James admits he is relieved to see the back of the summer transfer window.
The England international has been the subject of much speculation in recent weeks, with a proposed move to Tottenham regularly doing the rounds.
Spurs, though, made no approach for his services on deadline day and the veteran shot-stopper remains at Fratton Park.
A number of Pompey's top stars have been offloaded over the course of the last 18 months, but James' services have been retained.
So much has changed on the south coast that the 39-year-old admits the club are almost starting from scratch this season, but he insists he is happy to still be part of Paul Hart's plans.
"Despite not actually going anywhere, it was still an intense transfer window for me because I knew many of the players involved in last-minute moves," James wrote in his column for the Observer.
"It was the first time I'd ever been so close to the action and it did create a level of uncertainty among the players and staff. Every two minutes I was being asked, 'Are you going?'
"It is a genuine relief to close that chapter and get on with the rest of the season.
"I know a lot of people are expecting us to struggle and I've hear the pundits say it is a foregone conclusion that we will be relegated. But I remember the same things being said the year I joined Portsmouth. It all feels a bit like starting over."
