Injuries add to Grant's headache
28 Mar 2010 - 11:31:09
Portsmouth boss Avram Grant has admitted Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Tottenham has left him with major injury concerns ahead of next month's FA Cup semi-final meeting with the north London club.
Pompey were soundly beaten at White Hart Lane following strikes from old-boys Peter Crouch and Niko Kranjcar.
However, Grant was more concerned with the loss of England keeper David James and striker Danny Webber to calf and knee problems respectively, while veteran full-back Hermann Hreidarsson was stretchered off with a serious Achilles problem.
The two clubs lock horns at Wembley next month with a place in the FA Cup Final up for grabs.
"It looks like we have a problem for the semi-final because at the moment we only have 10 fit players, but we need to wait and see," said Grant.
"But we are not going to give up and will continue to keep fighting despite everything.
"We are trying to be professional and keep the spirit of the game, to play with pride for the supporters.
"I am very, very proud of the boys. We came here short of players, with guys out of position, and played well.
"They had two chances and used them both, we had two but did not take them.
"Today, Tottenham played for something, we just played for the spirit of football. But at Wembley, everyone will be playing to get into the final."
