Premiership side Portsmouth were founded in 1898 by a collection of businessmen, amongst them the first chairman of the club, John Brickwood, and the man who would become known as the 'father of the club', George Oliver.

Pompey tasted their first success in the FA Cup in 1939 under legendary manager Jack Tinn, who had lead the side to two previous final defeats. It is Tinn who is credited with laying the platform for the consecutive championship winning sides of the late 1940's.

The trophy cabinet has been bare since then, but after years of trying, the South Coast side were finally promoted back into the big-time in 2003/4, where they met arch-enemies Southampton, after an absence of 42 years.

Fast Fact: Serbia and Montenegro international Dejan Stefanovic is Pompey's record signing at 1.85million pounds.

Fast Fact: Peter Harris is Pompey's most successful marksman scoring 208 goals in 516 games in all competitions.
