Hreidarsson agrees new Pompey deal
08 Oct 2010 - 12:12:47
Veteran Icelandic defender Hermann Hreidarsson has agreed a new 12-month contract with Portsmouth.
The 36-year-old will sign the Fratton Park deal when he returns from international duty.
Pompey boss Steve Cotterill confirmed: "The contract's been agreed and ran from Wednesday. It can be signed when Hermann comes back.
"We're just hoping he's going to come back and be the player he was before he was injured. Should he do that, which we have no doubts, he'll be a really good addition to our squad."
Meanwhile, teenage goalkeeper Liam O'Brien's contract has been cancelled, with Cotterill adding: "It's a balancing act and Liam was out of contract at the end of the season.
"He's been released, not based on us signing any players, but personal judgement and whether he was going to play here or not."
The 18-year-old recently spent a period on loan at Eastbourne Borough.
