Heads Out Of The Sand

Back to reality as focus returns to Pompey.

After the worst season I have ever been through supporting Pompey, I was glad to have England's Euro 2012 to distract me from what was a/is going to be a painful summer.

The tournament has been a good watch, not from an English point-of-view but the games have been entertaining and the likes of Germany and Portugal have led the way in showing the rest of the international teams how the game should be played.

On the other hand, watching Roy Hodgson's men has been about as entertaining as watching Steve Cotterill's Pompey side of last season. Too many long balls and not enough creativity meant that the enthusiasm for the Three Lions was lower than in previous tournaments.

So, after the inevitable penalty shootout defeat for England in the quarter-finals (did anyone really expect anything more?) it's time for the vast majority of us to snap back to reality and get back to fully focus our attention on Portsmouth.

The creditors' meeting is tomorrow and the outcome of the CVA will go a long way to shaping the future of our football club. Whilst following England might be painful you get the feeling that football isn't going to get any better for us Pompey fans anytime soon.

We might have Balram Chainrai back in charge by the time August arrives, there's still a chance the club may not even survive until then but what will be certain is that if it does, Michael Appleton will have very little to work with and we can all expect a very difficult start to life in League One.

So, it looks like there'll be more hardship on the way for us but maybe, just maybe there'll be a light at the end of the tunnel?

And the same could be said for the England national team too.
