Portsmouth have created uncertainty when they should be establishing some stability at Fratton Park and they could pay dearly for it. Giving Paul Hart the manager's job was the right decision: he is experienced enough and has improved the team no end after the disastrous rein of Tony Adams. Temporary solution: Hart's appointment until the end of the season only creates uncertainty at Fratton Park But only installing him in the position until the end of the season tells everyone he is simply the caretaker, the second choice after Sven Goran Eriksson proved too difficult to prise from the Mexico job. Portsmouth are in relegation trouble and have been put up for sale and when uncertainty runs through the club it shows on the pitch. Maybe they think someone better will come along in the summer, or that new owners will not want to be saddled with a managerial has-been, but if defeat by Chelsealeads to further reverses, Hart's job insecurity will start to tell and relegation could be the price they pay. Portsmouth have already sold off key players and taken the compensation for their talismanic manager Harry Redknapp. At some point they need to build and the longer they put that off, the harder it will become.
