Hart praises Pompey after romp
28 Oct 2009 - 10:33:40
Portsmouth boss Paul Hart said after his side had reached the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup by beating Stoke City 4-0 that it was a result that had been coming for some time.
Two goals by Frederic Piquionne and further efforts from Danny Webber and Kanu helped Pompey, who are rooted to the foot of the Premier League table, progress to the last eight of the competiton.
Hart said after the romp: "I'm pleased with the boys. There were a lot of people who put in good performances. We've been threatening to do that for some time now.
"We got it right going forward, but I was also pleased that we got it right defensively. They've definitely given me something to think about."
Meanwhile, Danny Webber has paid tribute to Hart, saying: "Lesser people would have crumbled but he's been top class.
"He's kept the camp very happy here and very motivated. He's kept the belief going that we can get out of the situation we're in.
"The belief is still 100 per cent there. If anything, it's got stronger with the more adversity we've had to deal with.
"That's testament to the gaffer and the staff around him. We're looking to pull together and get ourselves out of the situation we're in."
