Hart won't rush Finnan

Portsmouth boss Paul Hart will not throw Steve Finnan straight back into first-team action against Wolves despite proving his fitness for the reserves in midweek. The defender has been out for two months with a hamstring injury but played in the 3-0 win over West Ham reserves in midweek. The former Liverpool man even assisted for Frederic Piquionne when he superbly crossed for the Frenchman to head home his first of two goals. However Hart has admitted that Finnan will not start at Molineux on Saturday despite Pompey in desperate need of a win following their seven successive league defeats. "I thought Steve did very well against West Ham," he told The News. "He played well within himself and got through the game, which is very important to us. "He was pretty tired after the match, obviously, he has not played for a long time, so we just have to assess that in the next couple of days. "It's possible he could be available. There will be conversations we have in relation to how he feels. "But it's a long time without playing so we have to make sure, we don't want to put him at risk. "We don't want to get this far and have a risk element, and that is what we will be considering." Piquionne returnPompey will be without Papa Bouba Diop, Hermann Hreidarsson and Richard Hughes for the trip to Wolves but Piquionne could be recalled. The on-loan Lyon striker had started all of the previous six Premier League games but Hart surprisingly omitted the 30-year-old altogether from the squad which faced Everton last week. "Fred did okay for the reserves, he will be better for getting his two goals," he added. "Strikers need goals. He, more than any other, has probably taken the longest to settle. It's a different culture, the Premier League is different to anything else anybody can face. "Not everybody can settle at the same speed."
