Hart - We'll turn it round

Portsmouth manger Paul Hart believes his side will fight their way out of the relegation zone if they can repeat Saturday's performance against Everton in the coming games. Pompey slumped to a 1-0 defeat at Fratton Park, meaning their start to the Premier League season has begun with seven straight defeats. But Hart took encouragement from the way his side performed in the second half as they went close to equalising numerous times. Despite ultimately taking nothing from the game, the former Nottingham Forest manger was quick to praise the efforts of his team. "We played tremendously well, creating really good chances in the first half and in the second we should have scored," he said. "But with a spirit and performance like that, I thought the players were fantastic. "We can't keep shooting ourselves in the foot but if we retain that spirit and continue to work like that we'll turn it around. "The players have been excellent and I don't see any reason why they won't keep that going." Everton took the lead when Younes Kaboul misjudged a high ball from John Heitinga, allowing Louis Saha to nip in behind the home defence. Hart was disappointed with the defensive lapse but was happy that his back-four dealt with the Toffees' threat throughout the rest of the match. He added: "It wasn't great play from Everton. If the ball travels 40 yards it should be dealt with. "Defensively we were generally very sound and our forward play was magnificent. Kevin-Prince Boateng was magnificent. "We created many chances and should have finished better."
