Hart wants ugly wins

Portsmouth manager Paul Hart has said his team will sacrifice style for points as they look to climb away from the relegation mire. Pompey have only managed one win in nine Premier League matches so far this term and take on Hull City at the KC Stadium on Saturday, before upcoming games against Wigan, Blackburn and Stoke. Hart thinks it is time to forget trying to play beautiful football, and is focused on grinding out results to climb the table. "As a team we have been complimented on the good football we have played this season but I would certainly settle for going to Hull and winning ugly," he said in the Daily Star. "The game at Wolves wasn't a classic, but we won, so nobody cared. Criticism "Last year there was a lot of criticism about playing 4-5-1 and gritty performances and grinding out results which helped keep us in the Premier League. "We've seen a lot about how rubbish that was but we stayed up. Now we are talking about gritty displays again. It's quite ironic really. "You look at your team and turn them out to play to your strengths and that is what we've been doing, so I can't stand that sort of criticism." Portsmouth's next four games have been dubbed as make-or-break in their season, and Hart is expecting his side to dig deep and battle their way to some much-needed victories. "What I think outside the top four is the beautiful game syndrome is all a myth - it's just a war," he added. "The next four games probably won't disappoint on that basis."
