Hart remains modest

Paul Hart insists the Portsmouth players must take the credit for beating the drop this season, not him. Pompey looked to be in danger of slipping through the Premier League trapdoor with more than half of the 2008/09 campaign under their belts. However, Hart, along with assistant Brian Kidd, helped to steady a sinking ship following his appointment to succeed Tony Adams in February. The Pompey director of youth operations insists he has given little thought to his prospects of being awarded the role on a permanent basis, having ensured the South Coast club will once again be a top-flight outfit next term. Hart instead prefers to reflect on the achievements of his players, who gave their all during the final few months of the season in order to avoid suffering the indignity of relegation. "If you look at my CV there are not many achievements - I'm not being funny that is the truth," said the former Nottingham Forest boss. "It has never been about me, Brian or the staff. Neither of us seek personal glorification. It has been about the players. Develop "I keep saying a pat on the back is only six inches from a kick up the backside. "You won't get me or Brian shouting our mouths off, we are not like that. "We have done a job with the players and other members of staff and the players should take the credit for that. "We listened to the players and tried to develop a way of playing which suited their needs and we thought we had got it but the players make it happen." Hart added, in view of Newcastle and Middlesbrough getting relegated on Sunday, that another season in the top flight for Pompey was very satisfying for everyone connected with Fratton Park. "If you look at what has happened to other clubs there are a lot of people who work at our club who don't get praise but they work and are still in jobs," he added. "The club, which is the most important, is in the Premier League. It is for other people to see it as an achievement."
