Hart delight at extension

Portsmouth manager Paul Hart admitted he was delighted that he and assistant Brian Kidd would staying on until the end of the season.[LNB] The news was confirmed after Pompey narrowly lost 1-0 at home to Chelsea in testing conditions on the South Coast on Tuesday night.[LNB]The loss was the first in the short time since Hart took charge and the result will be even harder to take given that the home side created enough clear-cut chances to get something out of the game.[LNB]The defeat leaves the club perilously close to the drop zone with just two points separating themselves and 18th place Middlesbrough, but Hart was happy to focus on his new role.[LNB]"That's right, we have been given the chance to stay on and we're delighted," he told Sky Sports.[LNB]"I came in for one game and now we have been here three games now. We have a job to do, that's to keep the team in the Premier League."[LNB]The former Nottingham Forest boss would not be drawn into admitting he wanted the job beyond the end of the season.[LNB]Targets"I have shorter term targets to aim for," he declared.[LNB]Despite losing to a late Didier Drogba striker 11 minutes from time Hart was quick to point out the positives from his side's performance.[LNB]"It's tough to take. I thought we played exceptionally well. Their goalie made some spectacular saves," he added.[LNB]"There is a lot of disappointment in the dressing room. Our spirit was tremendous. We have worked well all over the pitch, if we maintain that we will be a very difficult team to beat."[LNB]With striker David Nugent and winger Niko Kranjcar wasting the best opportunities for the home side with the score still level, Hart is adamant that his team must learn the harsh lessons from the clash.[LNB]"I think against the big teams you have to take your chances because you don't get that many," he added.[LNB]"Hopefully we'll learn our lesson and do better next time. But with the spirit the boys showed today I know whoever we play they will be in for a fight."[LNB]
