Hart backs Williamson to shine

Portsmouth boss Paul Hart boss is convinced he has pulled off something of a coup by signing 25-year-old defender Mike Williamson from Watford on deadline day. The deal which brought the player to Fratton Park could eventually cost the club £3 million and while Hart accepts Williamson is not yet the finished product, he believes the defender could become a Premier League star. "I think it's safe to say there are not that many centre-backs around," said Hart. "That's why Sylvain Distin was in demand and Joleon Lescott was so pricey. "The reason? People don't like heading it any more do they? I actually wasn't born looking like this believe it or not. I had my face steadily rearranged by people like Joe Jordan and Andy Gray. There aren't many central defenders around, but Mike caught our eye and we're hoping we can bring him on and get to be the finished article. "He's big, he heads it and he kicks it - that's where I start with all centre-backs. That's the way I was brought up, and what you get after that is a bonus. "He can handle the ball no problem and play it around, but that's no good if you don't head it and kick it. I'm hoping I can help him come on and we will have a quality Premier League player."
