Hart accepts James could go

Portsmouth boss Paul Hart admits he can offer no guarantees regarding the future of David James. The England international keeper remains on the Fratton Park books for now, but has been strongly linked with a move before the transfer window slams shut. Tottenham are reported to be keen on the experienced shot-stopper, with Spurs boss Harry Redknapp known to be an admirer of James' talents. Time is running out for any interested parties, as Tuesday will be deadline day, but Hart accepts that an approach could be made as Premier League clubs look to put the finishing touches to their respective squads. "There are two days to the transfer deadline and I don't think there is anybody in the Premier League who is confident of players not leaving," Hart said following Pompey's 1-0 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday. "He [James] is the best goalkeeper in England and is injured so it would be slightly difficult anyway. "I will have to speak to the owner [Sulaiman Al-Fahim]." While keen to guard against any further departures, Hart has admitted that he is looking to bolster his numbers before the window closes. "We're building now when most clubs built three months ago," he said. "The club has been in limbo for the last three months so to get an end to that would be a bonus for everybody and hopefully we can begin to move forward. "We're still working on limited budgets likes frees and loans but we targeted a few people and I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that they will be successful."
