Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp has scotched reports linking David Nugent with a loan return to former club Preston North End.
The England striker swapped Deepdale for Fratton Park in the summer in a £6million transfer but has seen first-team opportunities at the Premier League club limited.
Nugent has started only four league games which has led to speculation linking him with a return to Preston.
However, Redknapp is adamant the 22-year-old will not be heading back to the Championship club.
"Those suggestions are absolute rubbish. There is not a chance," he said.
"Do you think I paid all that money to sign him from Preston and then loan him back? That wouldn't be very clever.
"I've got just three strikers at the moment if Kanu is fit.
"He got a knee injury in Africa and (John) Utaka is really a winger. We are not exactly overloaded still for strikers."
