Harry hints at new Kanu deal
25 Feb 2008 - 14:58:01
Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp is keen to extend Nigeria international Kanu's Fratton Park contract.
The 31-year-old former Arsenal and West Brom star is out of contract in the summer and has been linked with a switch to Australian side Gold Coast Galaxy in the summer.
Kanu has scored 16 goals in 58 appearances for Pompey and played a key role in Saturday's 1-0 win against Sunderland after coming on as a substitute.
Redknapp is a big fan of the player, telling The News: "If he takes part in 25 games this season he'll get another year. I love having him around and all the other lads love him, too.
"His knee is a bit of problem - it's a bit iffy at times - but he's unique. Some of those things he can do are fantastic to watch.
"When he came on against Sunderland he was superb. Imagine what he must have been like when he was a kid at Ajax. What a player he must have been.
"He has fantastic ability. His skill is frightening. He holds people off and they can't get near him.
"I think I have a couple of strikers for next weekend. I could wrap him up and save him for Manchester United. I need him really. If we lose him we're in trouble."
