Harry happy despite loss
26 Sep 2006 - 08:44:51
Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp was happy with his players' attitude in Monday's 1-0 defeat to Bolton Wanderers and pleased with their overall display despite the result.
Kevin Nolan's first-half goal was the first Pompey had conceded this season as they finally lost their unbeaten start to the campaign.
"It was difficult. We played ever so well and their keeper was in fantastic form," Redknapp said after the match.
"He made three or four saves in the first half - the one he tipped onto the post from Sean Davis in the first half, the one he tipped round the post.
"I couldn't have asked any more from the players - they gave absolutely everything.
"We pummelled away and just couldn't get the break. Some nights it goes that way, some days you just don't get it, and they only really had the one opportunity and they stuck it away, defended for their lives and hung in there.
"But I was happy with how we played. If we keep playing like that we won't have any problems at all.
"We needed to stick one away, especially the way they play, they play with two wide, one through the middle and I just felt if we had got a goal it would have opened up a bit more.
"But that first 20 minutes we were fantastic and second half we came out and created chances again and it was backs to the wall for them."
