Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp is worried that Glen Johnson's loan stay at Fratton Park could be cut short by a thigh injury.
The 22-year-old England international is on a season-long loan deal with Pompey, but has made just eight appearances since his arrival from Chelsea.
Now Redknapp fears that Johnson may need an operation that could all but end his campaign.
He said: "It is a nasty injury and if Glen has to have an operation, it could be a long job.
"That would be a big blow because he has been fantastic for us. I hope he's able to play for us again this season."
Meanwhile, Pompey have been linked with a move for Colchester United's attacking wing-back Greg Halford in the January transfer window.
