Harry challenges Nugent
26 Sep 2007 - 17:38:13
Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp is hoping that striker David Nugent will challenge for a regular starting spot after scoring the winner in the 1-0 Carling Cup victory at Burnley.
The 22-year-old England international has scored twice in seven outings for Pompey since his £6million arrival from Preston North End, but has yet to find the target in the Premier League.
Redknapp said: "I hope David will come on from this. He needs to work hard and take his chances when they come.
"We've got a bit of competition up there, because Kanu has been fantastic and I have got four options up front."
Meanwhile, Nugent is also hoping to build on his latest strike, telling the club's official website: "As a striker, scoring goals is what gives you confidence.
"I scored in the last round, I scored against Burnley and I scored in the last reserve game, so I'm not doing too badly at the moment.
"Now, hopefully, I can get in some more games and carry on scoring goals."
