Halilhodzic set to quit post

Vahid Halilhodzic is poised to step down as Ivory Coast manager amid reports linking him with the Portsmouth job. The experienced tactician only took charge of Ivory Coast in May 2008 and looks set to lead the team to World Cup qualification. The Elephants are currently top of African qualifying Group E with three wins from three matches after last weekend's key win in Burkina Faso. However, it is understood that Halilhodzic has now told the Ivorian Football Federation that he will leave his post. "I will make an announcement at the start of next week about my future with the Ivorian Federation," Halilhodzic said. Halilhodzic is believed to be keen to work in England and earlier in the day he claimed he was already in negotiations with Portsmouth. Caretaker boss Paul Hart successfully kept Pompey in the Premier League last season but the managerial position has remained uncertain in recent months. Billionaire Sulaiman Al-Fahim is now expected to complete his takeover at Fratton Park in the next few weeks.
