Guy Whittingham Sacked

Manager relieved of his duties after just over a year in charge.

Portsmouth Football Club has confirmed that Guy Whittingham has been sacked after a poor run of results.

The decision was made after a meeting with senior board members today and Andy Awford has been placed in caretaker charge for tomorrow's match with Southend United.

The decision is not surprising given how many fans had turned against him in the last couple of weeks due to some recent terrible performances but the timing is slightly baffling as I personally thought he would have been given tomorrow's match to try and turn things around.

It's a shame that such a popular man couldn't be the success we all wanted him to be but in all honesty the board have probably made the right decision as long as they appoint the right replacement.

No doubt there will be plenty of speculation as to who the new manager will be. Neil Warnock apparently would take the job for no pay so maybe he should be tempted to put his money where his mouth is?

Other early frontrunners are Martin "Mad Dog" Allen who left Gillingham earlier this season having won League Two last season and Hermann Hreidarsson who is no longer managing IBV in Iceland and has obvious ties to the club.

It's never dull supporting Pompey, is it?
