Grip reveals Pompey snub

Sven Goran Eriksson's right-hand man Tord Grip admits the former England boss did turn down Portsmouth. Eriksson, who has just been sacked as boss of Mexico - where Grip assisted him as he did with England, was approached by Pompey after they axed Tony Adams in February. But Grip has confirmed that Eriksson turned down Pompey - who instead appointed from within with youth director Paul Hart getting the job. "Portsmouth spoke to Sven, but he told them he wanted to finish his project with Mexico," Grip said in The News. "Sven loved it in Mexico - the climate was great and the people were very friendly. "And the Mexican FA was adamant he was the right man to take them to the 2010 World Cup." Grip confirmed that he and Eriksson were now looking for a good 'club' project. "The last couple of years have been tough," Grip said. "We want to go to a good club where we can stay for a few years and work on a long-term project."
