Grant will not walk away
03 Feb 2010 - 09:51:32
Avram Grant will not walk away from crisis-club Portsmouth despite accusing the Fratton Park hierarchy of breaking promises made to him.
The Premier League's bottom club sold Younes Kaboul and goalkeeper Asmir Begovic on deadline day in a bid to help balance the books.
Grant was told he would be able to bolster his threadbare squad in the transfer window when he replaced Paul Hart in the hot-seat in November.
But with an escalation of the financial crisis at Fratton Park - which has included player and staff wages being delayed for the fourth time this season - Grant has revealed his unhappiness.
However, the former Chelsea boss has no plans to quit the crisis-ridden south coast outfit.
"I'm not a quitter and I'm not afraid of problems," he declared. "For me a problem is a big challenge and I came here with a big challenge.
"But I'm very, very disappointed with the situation off the pitch and I'm very disappointed that people cannot do what they promised me.
"When I came to the team, I knew the situation was not good with the football side, but they promised me everything was good with the financial side and that we would bring four players more.
"So we made a lot of progress on the football side. We took points and the team played good football - not worse than the teams in 10th or even eighth place.
"We've had injuries, as we thought we would have, and instead of bringing in two players, we sold two players. I'm very disappointed."
