Gary McAllister rejects teaming up with Paul Hart in latest blow for rock bottom Portsmouth

Portsmouth have failed to agree a deal for Gary McAllister to join them as assistant manager. The former Scotland midfielder this morning held talks over the position, which has been vacant since Brian Kidd's summer departure for Manchester City. But no agreement was reached, leaving Pompey still searching for a No 2 to boss Paul Hart. Hart told Portsmouth paper The News: "We couldn't agree anything. "He was the man I wanted so it's disappointing." It has been suggested that the length of the contract on offer was not to McAllister's liking. McAllister, 44, had also turned down a coaching role with Scotland earlier this month. Pompey have lost all of their opening seven games of the season - a Premier League record. McAllister was sacked as manager of Leeds in December. He previously had a spell in charge of Coventry.
