Finnan pens Pompey contract

Paul Hart has persuaded the former Liverpool right-back Steve Finnan to pen a one-year deal with Portsmouth.

The 33-year-old spent last season with Espanyol but was released by the Spanish side earlier this week.

Hart sees Finnan as the ideal replacement for Glen Johnson who was sold to Liverpool earlier in the summer.

Former Fulham defender Finnan made 217 appearances for Liverpool before joining Espanyol 12 months ago. He will now join the rest of the Pompey squad on their pre-season trip to Portugal.

Hart said of Finnan: "Steve's a quality player and he's very experienced."
