Portuguese midfielder Manuel Fernandes has targeted the clash with Bolton Wanderers on September 25 for his Portsmouth debut.
The 20-year-old joined Pompey on loan from Benfica last week after a £7million permanent move to Fratton Park collapsed because of a long-term groin injury.
Fernandes has made significant progress in his recovery since arriving in England and has already been able to start training with his new team-mates.
Portsmouth physio Gary Sadler told The News: "He's doing rehabilitation and ball work and feels he is getting better and better.
"He's joining in some aspects of full training. So he's getting there.
"It's really hard to say, but hopefully, without any setbacks, he will be involved with the first team by the end of the month."
Pompey also hope on loan Chelsea full-back Glen Johnson will recover from his ankle injury in time for the visit of the Trotters.
