    Eriksson link pleases James

    13 Feb 2009 - 08:40:16

Veteran Portsmouth goalkeeperDavid James hopes the club pursue their interest in former England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson.

Pompey are keen to find a successor to Tony Adams who left the club on Monday, and have been linked with Eriksson, who is currently managing Mexico.

The Swede is reportedly unhappy in Mexico though and his plight was not helped by his side's 2-0 defeat to the USA on Wednesday.

James told The Guardian: "Somebody of his calibre would be a tremendous acquisition for us. Sven dropped me a few times (for England), so it would be interesting if he did come in.

"But when you have players with the ability and quality we have, I think any manager of Sven's high calibre would turn a decent side into a good one again.

"Having a former England boss as manager of Portsmouth I'm sure is something that the fans would never have envisaged.

"Things change very quickly in football. Last season we won the FA Cup and people were talking about the Champions League.

"Now we need to push up the table. Fundamentally we are the same side so in some respects it is shocking to see the drastic change in form."
