Double deal boosts Pompey
11 Jan 2007 - 11:40:09
Portsmouth have signed Charlton Athletic defender Djimi Traore in a £1million deal on a contract running until the summer of 2009.
The 26-year-old Mali international had only joined the Addicks in the summer form Liverpool, but his £2million move failed to work out and he has opted to move on to Fratton Park.
The Addicks are close to signing Manchester City's Ben Thatcher as a replacement for Traore, who can operate in either central defence of at left-back.
Traore initially moved to England in early 1999 to join Liverpool, but struggled to hold down a regular first-team spot and eventually left to move to The Valley.
Pompey have also brought in France Under-21 international midfielder Arnold Mvuemba on loan from Rennes until the end of the season.
The deal is with a view to a permanent deal if Mvuemba impresses on the south coast.
