Double blow for ailing Pompey
30 Mar 2010 - 16:35:39
Portsmouth have suffered a double injury blow in an already troubled season after losing both Hermann Hreidarsson and Danny Webber for up to six months each.
Veteran full-back Hreidarsson ruptured his Achilles tendon during Saturday's 2-0 defeat to Tottenham at White Hart Lane.
Meanwhile, striker Webber ruptured his anterior cruciate knee ligament during the second half of a costly match.
"Hermann's Achilles just went, while Danny went to move and felt his knee shift," head physio Gary Sadler told the club's official website.
"It's devastating for both of them."
Speaking after the match, manager Avram Grant admitted he is running out of fit players to select ahead of next month's FA Cup semi-final against Spurs at Wembley.
Goalkeeper David James, Papa Bouba Diop, Kevin-Prince Boateng, Marc Wilson, Nadir Belhadj, Tal Ben-Haim and Hassan Yebda are all major injury doubts.
