Defensive errors anger Hart

Paul Hart was left frustrated by defensive errors after his Portsmouth side suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Aston Villa. Pompey are still without a point this season and have made history by becoming the first Premier League team to lose their first six games of the season. Full-back Nadir Belhadj clumsily brought down Stiliyan Petrov to concede the penalty that yielded Villa's first goal while central defender Tal Ben-Haim let Gabriel Agbonlahor turn him far too easily in the run-up to their second. After the match, Hart admitted that he had no explanation for the glaring lapses in concentration at the back. "(The match was) very frustrating," the Pompey boss told Sky Sports. "I thought up until the first goal there was not a lot in it, we were holding our own and looking like we were getting a grip on it and then two defensive mistakes that are unexplainable. I can't get my head round that one." No ExcusePompey bounced back with a prolonged spell of pressure in the second-half but could not find the goal that would have given them a chance of a comeback. The battling performance after the break only served to increase Hart's frustration as he claimed that a point or even a win could have been on the cards without the two errors. "We got a grip on it second half and played really well and really, apart from our mistakes it's either a 0-0 or we might nick it," he said. "You just can't account for that, you can't legislate for that and it's inexcusable." Hart added: "We played well throughout the game, we created quite a lot in the second-half, we created a few things in the first-half. "We're entitled to come here - a team that's expected to be in the top four - and get a grip on the game, which we were getting a grip on and we've let ourselves down again." The financial future of Portsmouth has dominated Fratton Park headlines in recent weeks but Hart is confident his team can perform despite the distractions, as long as the careless mistakes are avoided. "It's not easy at the moment I will admit but I've got great belief in the players and I think you saw out there signs that we'll improve. But if we continue to make schoolboy errors we'll find it very difficult," he said.
