David James lined up as Portsmouth player-manager

Portsmouth are hoping to pull off a shock by tempting David James to become their next manager.[LNB]The south coast club lost Avram Grant on Thursday night when he resigned from his position.[LNB] Safe hands: David James could step up to the hot seat at Portsmouth[LNB]Gone: Avram Grant[LNB]But the club's administrator Andrew Andronikou wants to appoint James in a player-coach role.[LNB]The England goalkeeper, 39, has no plans to retire yet but could be lured by the offer to combine the jobs.[LNB]He said: 'I would certainly not rule David James out of the reckoning. He obviously wants to go into management. [LNB]'Whether or not it is too early for him I don't know but he is one of the most articulate guys I know.
