Darryl Flahavan Signs For A Month

Aaron's brother joins Pompey. Pompey have signed goalkeeper Darryl Flahavan on a month-long deal. The Southampton born shot stopper was released from Crystal Palace at the end of last season and has been training with the Blues before signing today.Darryl is best known for his stint at Southend United, where he was named in the 2006 League One team of the year. He started his career at Woking after being released by Saints in 1998, before joining the Shrimpers. He has also recently had loan spells at Oldham.Obviously, the name "Flahavan" will evoke memories of Darryl's brother, Aaron, who made over 100 appearances for Pompey before being killed in a car crash under the influence of alcohol. As for Darryl, I wish him all the best in what looks to be a short spell at Pompey on the bench. It seems a bizzare deal and the only reason I can see for such a short contract is that a loan deal for Liam O'Brien for a similar amount of time is in the pipeline. The 31-year-old will wear the number 37 shirt and is available for selection for the match against Cardiff tomorrow.
