Crouch willing to sacrifice
11 Mar 2009 - 13:41:22
Portsmouth striker Peter Crouch has pledged to put personal goals to one side to help the club's battle to avoid relegation.
The England frontman claims his own goal tally is not important as long as the south coast club can pick up the points necessary to retain their Premier League status.
Crouch has not found the net for 17th-placed Pompey since an FA Cup third-round replay win over Bristol City in mid-January.
"We're more confident. If we start cutting out the silly goals we give away and start defending from the front as well as keeping clean sheets, that's the basis of our success," he told the Portsmouth News.
"It's why we did so well last season. We're getting back to that. The difficult thing is you have to sacrifice in attack a little bit if we're defending as a team.
"I have to get back and make sure we defend from the front. I don't mind doing that. I'm always confident that if I get chances I'll score goals.
"If we create and I get chances, I can do that. But as long as we win games and stay up I don't mind."
