Crouch unfazed by drought

Peter Crouch insists his current dry spell in front of goal will be irrelevant providing Portsmouth stay up.[LNB] The England international has not found the target for Pompey in the Premier League since before Christmas, a run that stretches back nine games.[LNB]With the club desperate for goals in their battle to beat the drop, many will be looking towards Crouch as a senior figure in the squad to help lead the way.[LNB]The 28-year-old is happy to accept that responsibility, but believes working hard in all areas of the field is more important to the club's cause than regularly finding the target.[LNB]"I have to get back and make sure we defend from the front. I don't mind doing that," he told The News.[LNB]"I'm always confident if I get chances I'll score goals. If we create and I get chances, I can do that.[LNB]"But as long as we win games and stay up I do not mind."[LNB]TightPortsmouth are currently precariously perched just a point above the drop zone but, with a game in hand on many of their rivals, Crouch is confident Paul Hart's side will be playing top-flight football next term.[LNB]"Whether we stay up or not is in our own hands," he added.[LNB]"We've got to play plenty of teams that are in the same sort of position as us.[LNB]"A lot of those games are at home and we like to think that if we get three points in them then we'll be all right.[LNB]"It's so tight down there that a couple of wins can take you into the top half of the table."[LNB]
