Crouch rues frustrating return

Peter Crouch has admitted he has endured a disappointing return to Portsmouth. The towering striker re-signed for the South Coast side last summer from Liverpool with the club qualified for Europe, having won the FA Cup. However, Pompey have struggled this season, following the departures of managers Harry Redknapp and Tony Adams, and only guaranteed their top-flight status by virtue of last weekend's results. Crouch, who has scored 17 times this campaign, told The News: "When I signed for this club, we were in the Uefa Cup and I thought we would push on and have a really good season. "Obviously we lost two managers, and we lost players, too, and it's turned out to be a difficult season." England international Crouch, though, reserved praise for current boss Paul Hart, whose current deal runs until the end of the season. He said: "In the past few years, nobody wanted to come to Fratton Park. "I remember being in the away dressing room and thinking this is going to be a tough match. "We had to get back to that, we had to all know our own jobs, and I think that's something the new manager has brought in. "He isn't working with the same calibre of player as Harry had, we haven't had money to bring in new players, but the manager has done really well. "It's time to get one more win, end the home campaign on a high and then start from scratch next season.'
