Cotterill To Borrow Cotterill

Welsh winger to come to Fratton Park on emergency loan. Portsmouth are set to secure the emergency loan signing of Swansea winger David Cotterill. The Welsh winger, who can play on either flank, was expected to sign today although the deal hasn't been confirmed as of yet. When it is confirmed, the 23-year-old will join Pompey for the rest of the season although Swansea have the option to recall him after 28 days. The former Wigan player made a name for himself at Bristol City where his performances as a teenager earned him a move to the Premier League club, although he failed to make an impact for the Latics, scoring just one goal in 18 appearances.A loan move to Sheffield United followed which was made permanent in the summer of 2008. After shining at the start of his spell at Bramall Lane he eventually lost form and was sold to Swansea where he suffered a similar fate. So, Pompey now have a winger keen to impress so he can get back into the Welsh national team and his seemingly gradual loss of form over time shouldn't be a problem for us as he is only with us until May.This should turn out to be a good signing from David's namesake. He would slot nicely into left midfield and provide a threat, meaning that hopefully David Nugent will be pushed up front alongside Dave Kitson. This will give the team a better balance which I believe will play a part in our upcoming upturn in home form, starting this Saturday against Barnsley. In other transfer news, a link to West Ham striker Benni McCarthy has been dismissed today. The 33-year-old cannot get a game under Avram Grant who is keen to loan him out and pay 80% of his wages, but it seems Pompey aren't interested. But perhaps there may be another arrival to come in the near future after Cotterill Jr. signs.
