otts County manager Steve Cotterill has left the Magpies after failing to commit his future to the League Two champions.[LNB] Cotterill, who is reportedly on the shortlist of candidates for the Portsmouth post, guided the Magpies to promotion despite only joining them in February.[LNB]He had an impressive record during his time at the helm after winning 14 and drawing one of his 18 matches.[LNB]However, after stalling over a contract offer to remain at Meadow Lane, the League One-bound club have now taken the deal off the table.[LNB]The Magpies were no longer prepared to wait for Cotterill to commit to the club and will now begin their search for a new manager.[LNB]Cotterill told the club's official website: "Leaving Notts County has been one of the hardest decisions of my career. It has been a real pleasure working with such a fantastic group of people, from the chairman and chief executive, players, the backroom staff, office workers and ground staff."[LNB]"The fans have been magnificent to me and I would like to thank everyone connected with the club for how they have received me since I've been here and wish them all the very best in the future."[LNB]Cotterill was reportedly wanted by Coventry before they opted to hand Aidy Boothroyd a three-year deal, leaving Pompey as the favourites to land his signature.[LNB]Earlier this week Pompey administrator Andrew Andronikou confirmed Cotterill was one of the names in the frame to replace Avram Grant who resigned at the end of the season.
