Cotterill hoping 'pestering' pays off

Portsmouth manager Steve Cotterill is hoping his persistence in the transfer market will begin to reap dividends over the next fortnight.[LNB] Cash-strapped Pompey are struggling for numbers two weeks into the new season, as Cotterill and chief executive David Lampitt have been working on bringing new players to the club as soon as possible.[LNB]The Fratton Park boss again only named four substitutes on the bench for the weekend draw with Reading, and is looking to bring back Kanu, Anthony Vanden Borre and Ricardo Rocha.[LNB]Cotterill has been trying to bring new faces into the club, and wants additions before the close of the summer transfer window.[LNB]"This week will hopefully be a busier week with a bit of luck," he told The News. "Squads have to be put together.[LNB]"People are reluctant to put people in their squads if they think they will be going out on loan. There are a couple I'm hopeful on.[LNB]"At this moment I can't do anything quicker than I am other than bordering on becoming a pest.[LNB]"I don't want to become one but feel like I am. I suppose it's something I just have to persist with it at this moment in time."[LNB]Meanwhile, Cotterill has revealed that he does not believe Dutch teenager Nadir Ciftci is ready for the physical rigours of the Championship.[LNB]The 18-year-old midfielder has already scored one goal in two appearances this season but could be allowed to leave on loan.[LNB]"Will Nadir go out on loan? It depends on what happens with my squad," Cotterill added. "Probably at the moment, if there had been a few all of a sudden coming the other way I would have done.[LNB]"It's only for his education. There's no way he'll be leaving here permanently, but certainly I wouldn't hesitate putting him out on loan.[LNB]"But we can't do that at this moment in time, for sure. He can't handle the Championship yet, he's not strong enough - but he's doing well.[LNB]"If I get stronger I've no problem leaving Nads out. [LNB]"It's simply because he's one of those boys who's a great prospect but he's not quite strong. As you've seen later in the Reading game, he's gone a bit jelly-legged, which is why I took him off the wing and got him down the middle. He was buckling."
