Cott refuses to be downbeat

Portsmouth manager Steve Cotterill refused to criticise his players after they fell to a 2-0 defeat at Coventry. Pompey kicked off the new season just days after being saved from potentially going out of business, but a Freddy Eastwood double ensured there would be no victory on the pitch. But Cotterill, who could only name four substitutes due to a threadbare squad, said: "I was disappointed with the goals we conceded but not too disappointed with the performance. "Everyone can see the kids we have on the bench and they would be nowhere near - I had 10 senior lads to choose from. I will be amazed if we get to 18 players at any stage this season."
