Connolly Signs Permanent Pompey Contract

Whittingham makes arguably his most important signing so far.

David Connolly has handed Portsmouth FC staff and fans alike a huge boost by signing a two-year contract.

The striker will be 36-years-old when next season begins and some will say that handing him a two-year deal is a risk. However, Connolly can still run as if he were in his mid-20's and his quality is a class above this level of football so he will be an asset provided he stays fit.

Now Connolly has signed he can continue his fruitful strike partnership with Patrick Agyemang and that may well be the difference between a promotion challenge and mid-table mediocrity next season.

Hopefully Johnny Ertl will be the next player to commit his future to our club and give the squad an even stronger look that would justify the bookies' decision to make Pompey favourites to win League Two next year.

In other transfer news, Stoke City have signed another Pompey youngster in 19-year-old right back Elliot Wheeler who was out of contract at the end of the season.

Despite an offer to loan him out for half the season to help pay wages, Wheeler has joined Alex Grant at The Potteries.
