Campbell eyes Pompey exit
26 Jul 2007 - 11:24:50
Centre-half Sol Campbell has dropped a major hint that he could be about to leave Portsmouth, with Spanish club Villarreal reportedly keen on the former England international.
The 32-year-old was a regular for Pompey last season following his arrival from Arsenal, but the summer recruitment of Sylvain Distin and Hermann Hreidarsson appears to have left Campbell pondering pastures new.
He told The Times: "I don't think Portsmouth will be my last club.
"There have been a few additions that will help, but I still feel we need a couple more players in certain positions to really challenge and move forward in the right direction.
"A new training ground and stadium is a big thing, even if it's not for us now, but for the future of the club.
"Those things really mean a lot to me and any top player coming into a club. At top-level clubs these things need to be there, it doesn't matter where you are.
"It's not only me. They have to do it for the future of the football club and the stability of the club."
